Blessington Housing

This project is a mixed development of 83 social and affordable homes on the outskirts of Blessington, in the hinterland of Dublin city. The design preserves the rural character of the six acre site, exploiting views of its wooded boundaries and hedgerows, whilst creating areas of varying character in the development through sensitive and extensive landscaping. Designed as a series of varied terraces and courts, the houses rise to one, two and three storeys in height.

At the heart of the neighbourhood is a public open space similar to a traditional village green, bounded by buildings of a larger scale. The variety of house types and sizes accommodate the different needs of the residents. Good quality materials with a long service life, are used throughout including natural slates and extruded aluminium rainwater goods, and a Sustainable Urban Drainage System, a first for Wicklow County Council.
