A recently completed project, the new public gateway for Birr Castle Demesne is now in use. Replacing a poorly located former pedestrian entrance, this new gateway addresses the existing public access routes (a new pedestrian crossing) as well as the historic Green of Georgian Birr opposite.

Quarter-sawn oak planked oak doors open to fully line the reveal of the new entrance, while the form of the stainless steel plate embrasures which pierce the demesne wall (a Famine relief project) twists to establish a connection to the Green.
