We recently submitted planning documents for the conservation and adaptive reuse of the courthouse in Borris-in-Ossory for Laois County Council. The conservation, refurbishment and development of this protected structure will ensure its ongoing preservation and provide valuable and sustainable work and amenity spaces within the village of Borris-in-Ossory.
A new multipurpose space for the village, occupying a vacant part of the rear of the site – the former prison yard – reorientates the courthouse to address the village street, where landscape works and new courtyard will define a shared entrance with the new remote working offices contained within the historic structure.
The functional extensions benefit the historic structure, providing circulation and services for the main building, reducing the impact on the building and allowing for generous spaces to be retained within the former courthouse.
